Hooking a big distributor
We often receive enquiries from retailers, however we are selective as they are inundated with offers for versions of their standard products. Also stocking agreements can be complicated, which we are not equiped to negotiate.
Our role tends to be to locate “new products” or do “anonymous price research” to ensure competitiveness.
In 2022, with the retail scene changed dramatically after the lockdown, we were approached by a large distribution group (operating in 40 countries) that needed suppliers for a new customer in Singapore.
We introduced some excellent snack and cooking oil manufacturers that somehow they had not dealt with before.
In this case we simply acted as buyers agent and got out of the way once they had done a few shipments as retail margins didn’t warrant our ongoing involvement.
The same company also asked us to help with product from China, however eventually this did not make sense and we directed them to a mainland colleague.
