A stadium full of rebar

Weldmesh and reinforcing bar is a widely traded commodity and makes up a significant portion of finished steel output. Usage tends to ebb and flow according to construction industry demand.

Not surprisingly, some companies seek to expand their market share by dumping any excess output on the international market when things are slow.

We were asked to investigate Asian steel producers that sold internationally at below their domestic price (dumping) and a WTO investigation ensured.

Our work was to obtain the local price of rebar that was sold by the companies suspected of dumping. Building a sports stadium was an oft-used excuse for asking for local pricing.

Information gained during the 6-month long project was used as evidence in the subsequent WTO hearings.
