You need to be tough to shear sheep and one such individual asked us to find a reliable and cheaper supplier closer to home.
Many companies in Asia can build a quick bag, but will it pass muster from the Australian Wool Exchange?
With the list of 30 criteria in hand we scoured the landscape for quality and reliable manufacturers with samples all sent to Australia for quality assessment. A short list of 10 companies was narrowed to three, which eventually started to supply the client.
A relatively simple job requiring 3 months to complete – though such jobs usually require only an hour or two a day. Much of the time is simply waiting for suppliers to make samples and shipments.
Australian Woolpack Standards
Woolpacks currently approved for importation into Australia are required to meet rigorous standards and quality controls.
Before a manufacturer can be approved, they must undergo a certification process to ensure that they have processes in place to ensure that all woolpacks produced meet AWEX’s standards.
Once approved, sample packs are drawn from each manufacturing batch for laboratory testing.
Only woolpacks which pass these tests can be imported into Australia.
